Leona Lucille (Lee) Nix, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 29, 2017. Family will receive friends Friday evening, January 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Leona was born in Bow Creek, Kansas on November 23, 1932, and grew up working on the family farm with her four sisters in nearby Logan, Kansas. Her childhood instilled an impressive work ethic and inner strength that always remained a part of her. She moved to Seattle where she worked for the Bell Telephone company for many years. Leona moved to Caldwell in 1972 to continue working for the telephone company. The Caldwell community truly became her home, and she worked for both Canyon County and the city of Caldwell later in life.
A very sociable and energetic person, Leona was at her happiest on the golf course or meeting with friends. She endeared herself to those around her through her kind and caring personality. Throughout her entire life, she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Passionate and opinionated, Leona had a wealth of knowledge and was not afraid to let people know what she thought. A conversation with her was never boring, and brought joy to so many.
She was preceded in death by her father Everett McClurg, mother Opal Mae Nichol, sisters Mildred McClurg, May Nielsen, Dorie Hicks, and husband Billy Nix.
Leona is survived by her daughters, Linda (Chuck) Knox and Michelle Weitz; son, Patrick (Jill) Nix; grandchildren, Sarah Weitz, Philip Weitz, Derrick Knox and Dillon Knox; step-grandchild, Amy Ferguson; and sister, Wanda Burker.
The family suggests that in place of flowers, memorials be made to Caldwell Ladies Golf Association, c/o Purple Sage Golf Course, 15192 Purple Sage Road, Caldwell, Idaho 83607.
