Margaret Louise Speedy Sipe

March 28, 1929 ~ April 23, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old
After a short illness, Margaret Louise Speedy Sipe died at a local hospital Sunday, April 23, 2017. She was 88.
Born at home to Robert and Agnes Speedy on Mar. 28, 1929, she grew up on the family ranch near Richfield, ID, riding horses and helping with farm work as well as in the home.
She married Bill Sipe June 22, 1947, in Richfield, after which the couple moved to Weiser, ID, where she spent most of her adult life. Her husband once pointed out that she was a very clean woman, and he was right. She was an excellent housekeeper and cook and raised delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers even into her eighties. She especially enjoyed cultivating African violets.
For much of her life she was a homemaker, but she also worked outside the home. When she was the director of the Weiser Head Start program, that program was selected as the best in the eleven-state Western region.
After her husband retired until his death the couple wintered in Arizona where they enjoyed both the people they met and the mild desert winters.
She was active in the Methodist, then Methodist-Presbyterian Church, the Twentieth Century Club, and TOPS. She volunteered at the senior citizen center both in Weiser and afterward when she moved to Caldwell several years ago.
Her parents, husband, a brother, and three sisters predeceased her as well as a grandson, Kyle Sipe. She is survived by her five children: the Reverend Robert (Martha) Sipe of St. Helens, OR; Barbara (Rick) Cross of Vancouver, WA; Marilynn Dacolias (Bill Neary) of Caldwell, ID; Phyllis (Gary) Nichols of Dassel MN; and Mark (Sheryl) Sipe of Post Falls, ID. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Alice Hartley of Roy, UT; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She easily made friends wherever she went and will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28 at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. A reception will follow at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1323 Dearborn, Caldwell. A graveside service, with burial at Weiser Memorial Cemetery, will be held later.
