Boyd E. Wise

July 12, 1930 ~ March 8, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Boyd Eugene Wise passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born July 12, 1930 to Eugene Marcellus and Martha Boren Wise in Standardville, Carbon County, Utah. In his early years he lived in Galion and Toledo and Marion, Ohio and in Erie, Pennsylvania. Boyd always wanted to attend college, so after graduating from Harding High School in 1948 he attended Brigham Young University. He and his roommate went to Salt Lake City one weekend, where he met Janice Bybee Elgan and the rest, as they say, is history. Boyd hitchhiked to Salt Lake City almost every weekend until he and Janice were married in the Mesa, Arizona, LDS temple on September 5, 1950.
Boyd transferred to the University of Utah and enrolled in the Air Force ROTC training program. After graduation, the Air Force took them to Idaho, Arizona, Alabama, Utah, Virginia, Ohio and back to Idaho, where they settled in Caldwell after his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1976. Idaho has been home to the family since Mom was from Salmon, some of the children were born in Mountain Home the first time around, and it was the summer vacation fishing destination no matter where in the country the family lived.
Boyd enjoyed his Air Force career but really disliked flying. Good thing he was an electronics engineer. He had a year-long assignment to Ascension Island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and missed his family greatly. But personal improvement was important to Boyd, so he taught himself to play the guitar, thinking he could be like Chet Atkins (his words).
More important than his career were his family and service in the church. Boyd and Janice made Caldwell their home and developed many lasting friendships. Many in the Caldwell area know him as their former stake president and patriarch. Boyd said many times how much he enjoyed serving people.
Janice, his wife and companion of 64 years, passed away May 14, 2014. He is survived by their five children: David L. (Deborah) Wise of Dallas, TX; Karen W (Craig) Morley, Phoenix, AZ; Owen R. (fiancé, Linda), Caldwell, ID; Martin R., Phoenix, AZ; and Eric L. (Maurine), Caldwell, ID; his sister Gaye E. Wise, Boise, ID; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewings will be held Friday, March 17, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, and Saturday, March 18, 9:00-9:30 at the Caldwell East Stake Center, 11792 Linden Rd, Caldwell, 83605.
