Tribute

Wilma LaDean Buckley, 89, of Marsing, passed away at St Luke’s, Nampa with her husband, son and daughter-in-law at her side on January 25, 2023 after a lengthy illness of diabetes. She will be intensely missed by her family and many people whose lives she touched.
Wilma was born May 1, 1933 to Lewis and Opal (Porter) Eells in Owyhee County along the Snake River half a mile down from Givens Hot Springs. She graduated eighth grade in a class of three boys and three girls from the Knowlton Heights Grade School east of Marsing.
On April 28 1952 she married one of those boys, Roy Buckley. They had a deep and abiding love for each other and were man and wife for 70 plus years. They had one child, Randy.
Roy and Wilma were always planning ahead. From their middle teens they talked about what it would be like to be man and wife. By the time they were married they were making payments on a house (not much of one) and Wilma had it furnished with second-hand furniture. On their wedding day Roy happily carried his bride into their own home.
Wilma was an outdoor girl. She played softball and she loved her home yard and garden – especially the flowers. Wilma was a great cook and homemaker. She enjoyed being in the mountains or desert picking up rocks for her rock garden, taking pictures, riding her horse Skipper, drawing and painting pictures, and making wonderful afghans. She liked to hunt and shoot guns and was very good with handgun, rifle or shotgun. She won a first-place medal at the Idaho State M.L. Match in 1969. Wilma enjoyed the fall deer hunt; she and Roy’s mother (Rosie) were hunting partners. When Rosie passed away Wilma never hunted deer again.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband, Roy; son Randy (Joni) Buckley of Caldwell; grandchildren: James (Angie) Buckley of Homedale and Sam (Crystel) Buckley of Nampa; many beloved great-grandchildren; brothers Terry, Dallas, and Doyle; sisters Rachel, Eunice and Barbara as well as nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Wilma was the oldest of eleven children, four boys and seven girls. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brother Ted and sisters Wanda, Arlene and Darlene.
Memorial services will be held at the later date under the direction of Dakan Funeral Home, Caldwell.
