Tribute

This is about our mom, Virginia Mae Riggs who passed away on Saturday October 29th, surrounded by her kids and their spouses. Our mom was a wife to dad for 66 years a mom to a daughter and 2 sons, a sister, a grandma/great grandma to 11 grand kids, aunt, cousin and a friend
The defining factors about our mom was her family and her faith which she taught us kids to follow and embrace at a young age. Mom had a penchant to cook and feed people. As one of our childhood friends who reached out to us about the loss of mom said, "She made a really good sandwich." The words to describe our mom would be, loving, safe, and wise.
Mom was born in Kim Colorado to Ralph and Harriett Winters on June 27th 1932 and passed on October 29th in Nampa Idaho. She was the third child of seven brothers and sisters. Mom taught seventh and eighth grade in Council and later at The Deaf and Blind School in Gooding. Mom attended George Fox College in Newberg Oregon and that is where she met our dad. Mom and dad were married in the Greenleaf Friends Church in Greenleaf, Idaho and they were married for 66 years. In the early part of their marriage and life, they lived in Jerome Idaho and had their first child a daughter Shauna.
From there they moved to Sidney Montana and in the 10 years they lived there they had two sons, Len and Lonnie.
In 1965, mom and dad moved the family to Weiser Idaho and in time bought a dairy farm where for the most part they raised us kids.
In 1973 their daughter Shauna left for college and mom and dad were left with two rambunctious boys. Mom always said, a summer wasn't complete without a trip to the emergency room and stiches will be required.
Mom spent numerous years as a teacher in the Head Start school in Weiser, all the while taking care of her family, being active in the Nazarene church as well as giving of herself to friends and family.
Mom always supported us kids, attending our school activities, church activities, marching band color guard, and supporting us as we went to Cambridge to the Washington County Fair 4H events as well as so many other events in our lives.
Mom was the ultimate mom, not just to her children, but to anyone who needed a hug, something to eat or to be loved, mom would be there for whoever needed a "Mom".
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Richard Riggs; parents, older brother Ervin, sister Ardis younger brother Lonnie, and grandson Austin She is survived by her daughter Shauna Dickson (Tom Dickson) son, Len Riggs (Tammy Riggs) son Lonnie Riggs (Noreen Riggs) and son Leonard Patton. Sisters Neva, Joan, and brother Jack (Karen) and Sisters-In-Law Bonnie, Carol (Clarence) Norma, and brother in law Larry (Arlene).
The family would like to thank Maryann for the years that she cared for mom and dad, and we want to thank Premiere Home Health Care. Especially Jaelyn, who formed a bond with mom that was truly a gift to mom.
We also want to thank Daniela with By His Grace Home. Your grace and caring that you showed mom and our family for the short time she was with you was so appreciated.
Thank you for guiding us through the very difficult time.
