Sharon Joy (Ord) Reed

Sharon Joy (Ord) Reed, age 90, of Caldwell, Idaho died peacefully October 22, 2021 in Mesa, AZ from metastatic breast cancer with family at her side.

Funeral services will be conducted at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Bishop Philip Bevington officiating. Interment will follow in the Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell under the direction of Bishop Bevington.

Sharon was born Feb. 21, 1931 in Nampa, Idaho to Arthur Elwood Ord and Orma Dorothy (Applegate) Ord. Sharon attended school in Nampa, graduating from high school in 1949. She then attended the University of Oregon. She was married to her high school sweetheart David Dean Reed of Nampa, Idaho, December 23, 1951 in Nampa. The marriage was later solemnized at the Idaho Falls Temple, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, July 8, 1966. Sharon's husband received his BA degree from the College of Idaho and then he served two years in the army. They lived in Albuquerque, NM and El Paso, TX while in the service. They then lived in Eugene, Oregon where David received his MS and PhD in chemistry at the University of Oregon. After his schooling they lived near Poughkeepsie, NY for seventeen years. David was transferred to Tokyo, Japan where he was Vice President of Texaco Japan. They lived in Tokyo for six years and then they moved to Houston, TX where they lived eight years. He retired there in 1987. They moved back to Idaho after living away for forty years and settled in Caldwell.

They had two sons, Michael David, born in Eugene, OR and Donald Arthur, born in Beacon, NY. Michael married Cheryl (Berryman) Reed and they have four children: Janelle (Reed) Henningson, David, Darren, and Kaylin (Reed) Haycock. Donald married Kathy (Muhlestein) Reed and they had four children: Phillip, Diana and Christopher and a boy, Alvin who was stillborn.

After David retired, they did a lot of traveling all over the world and the United States. Sharon loved being a housewife and mother and enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlework and genealogy. She held numerous callings in church including ward and stake primary presidency and ward and stake relief society presidency. She and David worked ten years as ordinance workers in the Boise LDS Temple. Sharon and David spent the winter months since 1998 at their winter home in Mesa, Arizona and enjoyed being close to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-laws, and seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made the to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 at Dakan Funeral Chapel. The services will be live streamed at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.
