Sandra (Sandy) Lee McHugh was born July 6,1937 in Stockton, California, passed away at home in Caldwell, Idaho, April 5, 2021.

Her parents were Raymond and Sara Walker of Brentwood, California. Sandra was raised the California delta area of Contra Costa County, California.

She attended Knightson Elementary in Knightson, California and Liberty Union High School in Brentwood, California.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of San Francisco with a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1959. She was in the second class of women to graduate from USF. Additionally, she was active in the Gamma Phi Epsilon honor society. This began her 38 year career as an RN working in San Francisco, Long Beach, Chula Vista, including as an office nurse for a surgeon, school nurse for Vallivue School District and campus nurse for the College of Idaho for 17 years. She was a proud participant in the National Nurses Health Study for over forty years.

In 1958, she met her future husband, Navy Lt. Charles McHugh, in San Francisco. After an 18 month courtship, they were married in the Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church in Brentwood, California. During her husband's Naval career, she lived in Seal Beach, Point Loma, Belmont Shores, California, Yokosuka, Japan, Chula Vista, Long Beach, California and Bremerton, Washington.

Her oldest daughter, Anne, was born in in Yokosuka, Japan, daughter, Jeannee and son Michael in San Diego, California. Sandy moved with her family to Caldwell, Idaho in 1978.

Sandy loved to cook. She maintained a library of cookbooks and recipes from her travels, friends and family. She was proud of her Italian heritage and relished making those traditional delicacies handed down from her grandmother, Lucia Franco.

Flower gardening was her passion. She studied books and magazines to find the correct plant for the perfect location. She treated her flowers tenderly and protectively. Sandy combined her talents of cooking and gardening with her dinners in the garden. She was known by some as the "hostess with the mostest."

Sandy was a model of faith and devotion. She was an active member of St. Mary's and Our Lady of the Valley churches. She served as president of Catholic Women's League, was a member of Women of Faith, Amen Group, Eucharistic minister, Chairwomen of funeral dinners and Lenten Chowder Luncheons and an active participant in Bible study. She was always a willing helper for any event. Sandy was also president of PEO-AU.
Sandy was devoted to her family. She was a natural caregiver. She kept up with the activities of her extended family and was a dedicated friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Chuck, sister, Debbie Walker, Freeland, Washington, daughter Dr. Anne Blackhurst (Joe) of Moorhead, Minnesota, daughter Jeannee (Eric), of Santa Barbara, California, son Michael (Nancy), of Caldwell and six grandchildren (Evan, Noah, Sebastian, Sawyer, Harvey and Kaitlin), four great-grandchildren and a favorite cousin Greg Shields of San Mateo, California.
