Rose Smallwood, 85, of Caldwell passed away peacefully and painlessly with her loving family surrounding her Tuesday, December 18th. Rose was born in Colorado, as one of ten children, and moved to Idaho with her family as a child. She enjoyed roller skating and riding in her brother Roy’s car growing up, as she helped out on the family farm. Rose married the love of her life, Arzell Smallwood, and was blessed with 53 years of happy marriage until she was widowed in 2009. With a devotion to motherhood, Rose raised her four children, S. Lynn (Mike) Thomsen, Mike (Sue) Smallwood, Tim (Ruby) Smallwood, and Scott (Jenn) Smallwood. She also lovingly cared for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years. Additionally, Rose opened her home to many foster children during the 1960’s and 70’s. She always had a tender heart for little ones. In recent years, Rose said she had never regretted the time she spent in raising so many children. Rose worked at a self-owned dairy for several years, Evan’s Fish Fly for 16 years, followed by West Valley Medical Center for 11 years until her retirement. Rose loved to travel with her husband Arzell, most memorably to the Oregon Coast, Yellowstone National Park, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. She also loved camping, crafting, crewel needlepoint, coloring, reading, and attending church service. Most of all, Rose loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A little lady treasured by her family, she will be deeply missed by so many whose lives she has touched forever.
