Tribute

Roger Charles Gibson of Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He was our beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his sisters Juanita Best and Marjorie Hendren.
He was born 2 November 1948 in Weiser to Chelsie and Lorene White and was second of ten children. At age two he was adopted by Harry and Laura Gibson and was raised in Kuna on a dairy farm. On 26 March 1976 he married Patricia Braun and they have been married forty two years. They have seven sons, Forest, Johannas (Sarah), Dustin James (Katrina), Michael, Edwin, Harrison and Andrew, and five grandchildren, David, Hannah, Timothy, Arianna and Alison.
Roger was the University of Idaho Laison Officer for the Latah County Search and Rescue. He went to college at The College of Idaho and NNU. At U of I that he received a Master’s in Soil Fertility. At Clemson University he received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Agronomy.
He spent a good portion of his life in research and development in the USAF, USG Corp and U of I. He also worked for the US Postal service. During Vietnam he was of draft age and enlisted in the USAF. He retired after twenty two years of service with the USAF and fifteen years with the U of I.
After retirement he became a minister of the gospel working with IDOC, county jails and the disabled. During the last thirty eight years he helped plant four churches and assisted two churches in being reestablished. Since 1985 he and his wife Patricia have worked in street ministry to those unwanted and in the drug and gang culture. Since 1996 he has been taking care of Patricia after she was in a multi-trauma car accident in addition to raising the boys, cooking, washing and taking the boys to sporting events.
He enjoyed backpacking, fishing, hunting, search and rescue and orienteering, spending many a day in the high country with his wife and family. At Weiser he organized a soccer team that took the state championship and second twice. He was also a soccer referee at youth games and tournaments, as high as regional. Two sons played college soccer and one played college football.
Viewing hours will be between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Dakan Funeral Chapel. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Deer Flat Free Methodist Church at 17703 Beet Rd, Caldwell. There the family will be receiving friends and holding a viewing at 9:30 a.m. prior to the services. A dinner will be between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery following the dinner. Any gifts will be placed in a trust fund for Rachael’s Vineyard (for those dealing with the traumatic effects of abortion).
