Tribute

Richard "Buck" Buchholz was born August 17th, 1945 in American Falls, Idaho to Hilda and Paul Buchholz. He graduated from Aberdeen High in 1965. After High School he joined the Army National Guard.  He worked for awhile for Simplot at the potato plant with his father, Paul Buchholz. He later started driving truck. He was a drummer in a band, playing in Aberdeen, Pocatello and American Falls and surrounding areas. He never took any drum or music lessons, he taught himself to play.  He met his wife, Janice, in American Falls and married in August of 1967. They were married for 50 years. They moved to Nampa in 1974 and later moved to Caldwell where they resided.
Buck and Janice had 4 daughters, Kim Buchholz , Rici Lowe (Brant Schorr) Tracy Nelson ( Saul Nestor)  and Amy Bean (Danny Bean). They have 9 grandchildren, Tyler, Kasey, Shoni, Tad, Kortney, Kelsey, Justin, Kallie and Brody. They have 11 great-grandchilren.
Buck drove  for many different companies throughout his 47 years of driving truck, including, Carnation, Nestle, Simplot, as well as an owner/operator.  The last company he drove for was Walmart, where Buck said that was his favorite place to work. Buck also volunteered for West Valley Hospital for 10 years. There, Buck found his nitch in helping others. While there, he received the humanitarian award as well as gained the hearts of many! He quickly became a familiar face at West Valley.  Buck always went way out of his way to help any and all.
In 2012, Buck was diagnosed with a Liver disease. The doctors gave him 5 years to live. He survived 8 years. In that 8 years, he showed us the true meaning of strength. As Tracy has said, he is "the come-back kid".  He has been our true "hero", fighting hard and showing such strength until the very end.
He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers with his friends, Tom, Pat and Kearny as well as Saturday morning coffee with them. He also enjoyed fun, 3 day get-a-way trips to Wendover with Janice, Tracy and Saul. Baxter was his little Buddy or “screwball” as he so affectionately called him.  The last big trip he took was with Tracy and Saul to California. They enjoyed the ocean, his first major baseball game, watching the Dodgers play the Diamond Backs. He also got to enjoy his first Dodger Dog! They visited Saul’s family, where they all loved Buck, which was no surprise.  Buck told them and everyone “Saul is my son.” Saul was always quick to help Janice and Buck with anything. As Janice always put it “Call Saul, he can do it.” Buck enjoyed airplanes, Jets, Helicoptors and didn't even mind living a half a block from the train tracks because he loved the sound of the train.
Everyone knew Buck for his personality.  His sarcasm, yet his ways of making others laugh, always shined thru.  Even the days he spent in the hospital, brought out laughter and new friendships with the Doctors, nurses and volunteers. We heard many times, "Your Dad is by far my favorite".  One nurse said, "your Dad has such a kind, strong spirit, I love him". He had a way with the ladies, getting more ice cream and candy than any diebtic should ever get. Even at the end, while not feeling well, he still made everyone laugh.
He will always be remembered for his helpful, kind, sarcastic, stubborn ways, that always made people laugh.
