September 20, 1958 ~ August 22, 2020 (age 61) 61 Years Old

Tribute

Paul Michael Gamboa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:25 p.m. Paul was born to Henry and Elizabeth Gamboa on September 20, 1958, in Concord, California. He spent his youth in the beautiful surroundings of San Diego, playing basketball, baseball, football, and surfing in the warm waters of southern California. Paul was always a tenacious competitor and was gifted with a wickedly accurate jump shot on the basketball court.

After graduation from Clairemont High School in 1976, Paul followed his church group to establish the Shepherdsfield Community near Fulton, Missouri. It was there that he met Kathleen Marie Branch and they were married in 1982. They had 4 sons while living at Shepherdsfield.

In 1990, after years of communal life, Paul struck out on his own and moved his family to southern Idaho. His parents were raised in Gooding and in 1986 his father built a cabin on family land in the Smoky Mountains near Fairfield. Paul had spent summers there as a boy fishing for rainbow trout and hearing from his Basque grandparents about grazing sheep on their land and running the Smoky Bar in summer and fall. This land and the cabin became Paul’s touchstone, the place where he could experience beauty and peace.

Paul began to work as a house painter (a skill learned at Shepherdsfield) and within a few years started his own company named “Paul’s Perfection Painting”. He built a thriving business and a beautiful home for his family in Meridian. In 1993 Paul and Kathleen were blessed with the birth of their 5th son. The following years were not without hardship as Paul maintained his business and provided for his family. Paul’s work was a source of great pride as reflected in the company name.

Paul was an avid sports lover and was well known throughout the community for his passion. He stayed loyal to the game, whether it was rooting for the Boise State Broncos, his San Diego Chargers and Padres, the St. Louis Blue Hockey team, or more recently Nascar.

Throughout Paul’s journey, he never wandered from his love of fishing, frequent trips to his father’s cabin, a knack for the local pub, but above all else, meaningful friendships. Interestingly enough, one of his best friends was his pug, Felix, named after Paul’s late grandfather. Everyone near to Paul knows how strong his love for Felix was.

Paul is survived by his five sons, two grandsons, three siblings, and his loyal Felix. He is remembered by many for his quality impact as a business owner and as an even better friend. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, accompanied by warm laughter and heartfelt companionship.

The family expresses its gratitude to Saint Al’s medical staff who fought through immense difficulty and kept his final days measured with grace, and to dear friends who have been so supportive over the years and in this difficult time.

A memorial service for Paul will be held at Dakan Funeral Home Saturday, September 5th, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., located at 504 S Kimball Ave, Caldwell, Idaho and limited to close family and loved ones due to local and state restrictions The memorial services will be live streamed at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com, a link to the video will be at the bottom of Paul’s tribute page.
