Tribute

Nancy L. Mittleider (Koch) passed away July 28, 2018 at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell surrounded by family. Nancy was born May 11, 1948 in Paul, Idaho to Paul and Pauline Koch. On August 10, 1968 she married the love of her life Terry Mittleider. Together they enjoyed 50 years together. During her life Nancy worked at the Canyon County Treasurers office and managed the kitchen at Van Buren Elementary in Caldwell. She finally settled in at Commercial Tire where she held several positions until she retired (for the second time) in 2017 after 30 years.

Her greatest work was her family. She was incredibly proud of each member of her clan and could never go an entire conversation without bringing up one of her kids or grandkids. But, it was her grandkids that truly held her heart. They only had to mention a need, or a want and she would make it happen. Even if that meant running to school in the middle of the day to replace a forgotten lunch, drop off afterschool treats, or figure out how to crochet a creature she had never heard of before.
For her children her support was unyielding through good times or bad. Her family only had to ask, and she would come if she was needed. Her hugs always made their recipient know they would be ok. It was her nature to nurture. No one remained a stranger for long. A hug from Nancy was easily given and always made the recipient know they were loved and they would be ok. If you were loved by one of her own, you were welcomed with open arms.

Nancy was an amazing cook, and an even better baker. She loved to make sure her family was fed and never thought she had cooked enough. But, perhaps what she will be remembered most for is her crocheting. Her talented nimble fingers created beauty, a gift of love that will forever be treasured. She crocheted for many but never kept much for herself.

Nancy loved to go to yard sales and antique stores, always scouting the “glitz” tables. A collector may describe Nancy best. When she found something she loved, a collection was born. With her husband facilitating her obsessions, a small collection of plates quickly turned into an entire wall display, a few cookie jars grew in to hundreds and her extensive collection of Fenton required the acquisition of additional curio cabinets. She also collected bowls and pitchers, Egyptian tear bottles, princess glass, and earrings.

Nancy is survived by her husband Terry, her son Grae Mittleider and his wife Angie, her son Adam Mittleider, and four grandchildren, Trew, Jaegar, Tolle, and Karston Mittleider. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Schwenkfelder and her husband Bob as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a few aunts and uncles. Nancy was preceded in death by her grandmother Myrtle Dorsey and her parents, Paul and Pauline Koch.
