Tribute

Nancy Kathleen (Haney) Laughlin, 74, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2022 surrounded by family. Nancy was born in Boise, Idaho to Marvin and Mildred Haney, the second of four children. Nancy spent her early childhood in the north end of Boise, before moving out to a farm between Marsing and Homedale at the age of 10. Nancy graduated from Marsing High School as valedictorian in 1966 and attended college at the University of Idaho for a time before returning home to care for her father before his death in 1969. She went on to finish college at Boise State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Nancy married the love of her life, Chuck, in August of 1973 and they went on to enjoy 48 wonderful years together. To this union, two children were born – Shannon and Shaun and Richard was adopted as a teenager. Nancy spent 37 years as a teacher, enriching the lives of thousands of students over the years. She loved to teach her students about Idaho history and to get them outside of the classroom. After retirement in 2009, she and Chuck spent many wonderful summers working as Camp Hosts at Fort Stevens State Park outside of Astoria, OR and made many lifelong friends.

When her health began to deteriorate, she spent time reading, working puzzles with Chuck, and watching British murder mystery shows. Nancy never met an animal that she didn’t love and has rescued countless fur babies over the years.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Chuck, son Shaun (Erin) Laughlin, daughter Shannon (Joe) Ahlstrom and son Richard (Gaynor) Heisler, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, her sister Eileen (Dave) Hixson, and brother Ron (Denisse) Haney.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the C.V. Peckham Community Center adjacent to Dakan Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 21st at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue of your choice.
