Michael McClure passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Michael LeRoy McClure was born on April 8, 1948 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Clifford LeRoy McClure and Lili Mae McClure. Mike was the oldest of four children and was raised in Twin Falls with the exception of three years when their family lived in Kansas during his 7th, 8th and 9th grade years. Mike loved all sports and participated in baseball, basketball, football and pole vaulting. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1967 and then moved to San Francisco where he attended Career Academy to pursue a career in dental lab technology.
After attending the academy, he returned to Twin Falls and went to work for a local dental lab. During this time, he met the love of his life, Sheila Dea Cardwell, and they were married in 1973 and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple. They lived in Twin Falls for the next five years where they welcomed their sons Von and Mark. Their family later moved to Eagle when Mike got a job at a lab in Boise. There they welcomed son David and were heartbroken to lose him to SIDS three months later. They later had two more sons – Andrew and Todd.
Mike and Sheila started their own lab – McClure Dental Lab – in 1984. For the duration of the years his boys were in school, Mike worked hard to build up the lab that three of his boys would eventually take over. Very seldom did he miss one of their games in various sports. He enjoyed returning to Twin Falls when he could to hunt with his father-in-law.
After they were empty nesters, Mike and Sheila moved to Middleton and built their dream home. The stage of life Mike will be remembered for the most is the one that began the day he became a grandpa – or Papa as many of his grandkids call him. Mike was an amazing grandpa. He and Sheila spent hours attending various games, concerts, events and anything else they could find their grandkids participating in. Mike never missed an opportunity to hug his grandkids and tell them he loved them. They moved to Wilder in 2019 where he spent the rest of his days with his wife by his side taking care of him.
Mike is survived by his wife Sheila; sons Von (Shelley), Mark (Chelsea), Andrew (Carra), Todd (Brittney); sisters Deanna (Walt), Joyce (Gene), Joann (Rick); grandchildren Ky, Britton, Addisyn, Kenna, Lyla, Jax, Tieg, Lili, Jayce, Hazel and Ava; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his son David, his parents (Clifford and Lili Mae), and his in-laws (Darrell and Shirley).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, November 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1749 Willis Road in Middleton. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 to 10:45am, prior to the services.
