Merleen Smith Orvin passed away peacefully in Caldwell, Idaho on May 27, 2018 in the presence of family and friends.
Merleen Smith was born September 2, 1928 in Richmond, Utah to William Frederick Smith, Jr and Mary Meta Katrina Jacobsen Wilmot Smith. She graduated from North Cache High School and attended Utah State University.
She married Noel Jere Orvin on March 14, 1950 in the Logan Utah Temple. They lived for a time in Roy, Utah where their first son, Marc, was born. They moved to Cornish, Utah where their second son, Blair, was born.
Over the years, Noel and Merleen lived in New Plymouth, Idaho; Bothwell, Utah; Trenton, Utah; and ended up for the last 50 years in Caldwell, Idaho.
Merleen was a skilled secretary and bookkeeper and worked most of her life in that occupation. She supported Noel in all his varied businesses by keeping his books. She also worked at State Finance and KCID in Caldwell for many years. She did independent bookkeeping for several small businesses.
Her most incredible talent was music. She played piano and organ for decades and taught piano to hundreds of students. She was a life-long and faithful member the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the organist in every ward in which she lived. She played for hundreds, if not thousands, of funerals. Her talents will certainly be missed.
She is survived by two sons, Marc Orvin (Debbie) of Arvada, Colorado and Blair Orvin of Caldwell, Idaho. She had 6 grandchildren. Jennifer Meyers (Chad) of Golden, Colorado; Jeremiah Orvin (Lee) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Jessica Medina (Tony) of Lamar, Colorado; Jacob Orvin (Kristen) of Tucson, Arizona; and Jason Orvin (Lexie) of Alexandria, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband Noel in 1999 and her grandson Joshua Orvin in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mary Smith, and her brothers Vernon and Darrell Smith
She was blessed with 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heart ‘N’ Home Hospice for their care and support in Merleen’s final hours.
There will be a graveside service at the Richmond, Utah cemetery on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 3:00 PM.
