Mary Ellen Nelson,95 of Bothell, Washington and for the last
6 years of Stanwood, Washington, passed away April 9, 2018
in Stanwood at Warm Beach Senior Center.
Mary Ellen was born in Haynesville, Louisiana to Harold and Bessie
Courmier on December 15, 1922 and was the oldest of two children.
She attended Central High School in Oklahoma City and graduated
in 1941. She worked as a secretary until she met Bill Nelson who
was an Aviation Machinist Mate in the Navy in World War II.
Mary Ellen and Bill were married January 5, 1943, shortly before he
shipped out. She continued working secretarial jobs until Bill was
discharged. After the service they moved to Homedale, Idaho where
they started their family and began a life on the farm for 24 years
growing primarily potatoes. Together they raised three daughters
who helped with the farm chores. During that time Mary Ellen held
several jobs to help with the finances. In 1968 Mary Ellen and
Bill sold the farm and moved the family to Bothell, Washington
where Bill worked many years with the State Patrol and Mary Ellen
was employed at Allstate Insurance until she retired in 1985.
In retirement, she enjoyed shopping with her daughters and
grandchildren, family gatherings, card making and tagging along
on fishing and camping trips with Bill. Mary Ellen and Bill were
faithful servants in several churches over the years and enjoyed
the company of many friends and relatives.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bessie
Courmier and husband William Nelson.
Mary Ellen is survived by her sister Emma Sue Coffey, daughters
Kathy (Randy) Jacox, Carolyn Krawczyk, and Debra (Don) Beckwith;
five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
