Louise Winslow, 97, was born to Lloyd John and Ruth May (England) Hunter in Emmett, Idaho on November 26, 1924. She graduated from Emmett High School in 1942 and went on to attend business school in Nampa, Idaho. After business school she worked for a freight transport trucking company briefly, then the Ration Office until the end of World War II. After the war, she worked as a teller in a Nampa bank, as a cashier at the Idaho Department Store in Nampa until her marriage in 1948.
During this time, her sister, Catherine, shared an apartment with her in Nampa while attending Northwest Nazarene College (NNC) to become a teacher where she became friends with Cathryn (Kate) Winslow, who was also studying teacher education at NNC. Catherine and Kate introduced Louise to Kate’s brother, Dale, and as the saying goes, the rest is history. Dale Winslow and Louise Hunter were married November 21, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Caldwell.
For the first five years after their marriage, they lived on the Tucker home place near Greenleaf, Idaho. While living here, Dale and Louise welcomed their son Ted in 1949; a daughter Ruth in 1951, and another son Claren in 1953.
Dale and Louise and their family moved to the Winslow farm south of Greenleaf in the summer of 1953 where they continued to farm with Dale’s father while adding to their family another daughter Ula in 1955, another daughter Loma in 1957, a son Kelly in 1960, and finally a daughter Helen in 1963.
Louise lived at the Winslow farm house for more than 61 years as the quintessential farmer’s wife, supervising teenagers doing field work, 4-H projects with her children, feeding orphan animals (including 20+ stray cats at one point), working in fruit packing sheds in the fall, as well as gardening, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and caring for her family. She left the farm and moved to Annabelle House in Caldwell about a month before her 90th birthday in 2014 and then moved again to Lenity Senior Living in 2017, where she passed away January 14, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and May Hunter, husband Dale, brother Robert hunter, sister Catherine Spencer, two sons Ted and Kelly and daughter Helen. She is survived by daughters Ruth Winslow, Ula Chadd (Ross), and Loma Bittick (Jim) and one son Claren Winslow (Teresa). She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, Kerri Chadd, Justin Bittick, Stacey Bittick, Sarah Winslow, Ted Winslow, John Bittick, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the many great caregivers and staff at Lenity Senior Living in Caldwell and the nurses and staff at Drs. Housecalls and Drs. Hospice for their loving care of our mother in her last days with us. The family suggests donations to Notus Baptist Church, Greenleaf Friends Academy or Samaritan’s Purse in lieu of flowers.
