Maria Elena Herrera

Maria Elena Herrera, 62 of Greenleaf, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at home of natural causes.
Maria Elena Luna was born on November 2, 1954 in Lockney, Texas to Monico Luna and Maria Teodora Garcia Luna. She is the 6th of 11 siblings. The family moved to Weiser, Idaho the summer of 1957.
Maria Elena married Jose Jesus Herrera on October 23, 1971. They had five children, Eduardo, Consuelo, Chuy, Sonia, Ricardo and nine grandchildren, Genee, Victoria, Sophia, Andrew, Evan, Bella, Kyrie, Gabe and Jose Jesus.
Maria taught her children three major lessons:
1)Love Jesus – May the favor of the Lord, our God be ours (upon all my children and grandchildren) and prosper the work of our hands – Psalm 90:17
2)Love family
3)Fierce determination and Work Ethic
In 1982, the family moved to Round Mountain, Nevada and resided there until 2010, but mom viewed this as a temporary assignment and always considered Idaho “Home”. After Jesus’ retirement, the family moved to Greenleaf. Maria enjoyed laughing and spending time with family. She always had a strong faith in God, especially during trying times.
All of the grandchildren called her “Nana” and she always did her best to teach them the Faith, and occasionally spoil them. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all. Think of what is above, not what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God - Colossians 3:2-3
