Landon Samuel Smyser was born on April 10, 1991, in Canyon County to Melinda and Skip Smyser. He was a beautiful, 9 lb, blue eyed baby boy, who loved his siblings—Lincoln, Logan, and Lauren. He was raised in Parma, Idaho where he enjoyed playing sports, singing, and hunting “in God’s country.” In elementary school, Landon’s love for reading began with Harry Potter. He’d spend hours reading in bed with his flashlight. As a youngster, Landon attended Sunday School, God’s Gang, and Church Camp. He also participated in numerous Christmas plays at Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was the star of the show in the early 2000s when he sang “Christmas Shoes” as part of the Christmas program. In high school, he was an outstanding athlete and played varsity basketball, tennis, and golf. As a student, Lando loved to read historical books, novels, and sing in the Parma choir. On numerous singer’s trips, he entertained his classmates with his beautiful singing and jokes. In his free time, he loved to listen to music, sermons, and podcasts. In high school, Landon embarked on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. During his trip, he provided the children with basketball balls for his camp. Upon graduation from Parma High School, Landon attended the University of Idaho majoring in History and Business. He was a proud member of the Vandal Family. While at the University, he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity where he formed lasting friendships with his brothers. Landon left Moscow and moved to Napa Valley to live with his big sister, Logan. He worked in the hospitality industry for several wineries. This is where Lando’s love of cooking began. Since then, his passion for cooking has flourished and he became in demand at all family gatherings where he often prepared scallops, pasta, bone marrow, and incredibly seasoned meat dishes. Landon returned to Idaho and worked at the family restaurant—Capitol Cellars—in downtown Boise. From there, Landon worked as a sales specialist. For the last year and a half, Landon was employed by Prevalent, a risk management company. This position allowed him to interact with people from all over the world. He thrived on these opportunities to learn more about people and places. Like all of the Smyser’s, Landon was actively involved in politics. He enthusiastically celebrated election nights, served as a precinct committeeman, and worked on numerous campaigns. Landon enjoyed the company of his many friends who he loved dearly. Whether it was movies, watching sports, golfing, or just enjoying each other’s company, Landon was always entertaining his friends. On January 22, 2023, Landon Samuel Smyser went to be with the Lord, and he will be put to rest in Roswell, Idaho. His love of the Lord has given his family great comfort knowing that he has gone to his heavenly home. Landon will be deeply missed but we know we will see him again. Landon is survived by his parents, Melinda Sloviaczek Smyser and Skip Smyser of Roswell. His siblings Lincoln W. Smyser and his children Harper and Hudson Smyser, Logan Smyser-Griffin and her husband, Joe, Lauren Ballenger, and her husband, Matt, all of Boise. Landon is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, who loved him dearly. Landon was preceded in death by his grandparents Millie Smyser, Sam Smyser, Bill and Sandra Sloviaczek, his uncle Mike Sloviaczek, and his aunt Taunja Sloviaczek. Services will be held with a viewing on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Dakan Funeral Home in Caldwell.
