LaVern (Vern) Henry Trupp, son of Henry Trupp, Jr., and Lydia Habekost Trupp passed August 1, 2018 in hospice at the Genesis/Apex Health Care Center in Boise, Idaho.
Vern was born November 20, 1935 in St. Anthony, Idaho. He attended grade school in the Wilford country school and graduated from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony. He was kept busy in his teen years on the family farm milking cows, irrigating, and harvesting hay, grain, potatoes, and sugar beets. In his spare time, he helped his Grandfather Habekost dry farm in the Squirrel, Idaho area.
Vern joined the Army in 1957 and served as a radar operator/truck driver as part of a little-known Expeditionary Force in the Formosa Strait (current day Taiwan). He enjoyed recalling having to stand guard duty with a rifle, but that he was never issued ammunition.
When Vern’s relatives from St. Louis were accompanied on a visit to Idaho by a friend, Vern met Judy Ogelsby. They married on November 17, 1962 and had one daughter, Linda. They lived in Ferguson, Missouri where he worked as a carpenter. They later divorced.
Vern returned to Idaho in 1992 and became active at the Caldwell Athletic Club and TOPS where he met his present wife, Blanche. They were married August 28, 2001 and have since lived in the Caldwell and Boise areas.
Vern is survived by his wife, Blanche Trupp of Boise, ID; his daughter, Linda Trupp of Mesa, AZ; and his stepchildren, Tim Heater, Deb Cordon, and Sandra Szalary, all of Boise, ID. Vern is also survived by his sister, Marlene LaPlante of Wasilla, AK; his brother, Clyde Trupp of Boise, ID; his sister-in-law, Anne Marie Trupp Hughes of Colorado Springs, CO; and his former spouse Judy Trupp.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, Major LeRoy Trupp, who died in a vehicle accident while on duty in Texas in 1970 after serving tours in Viet Nam and Germany.
Vern will be inurned as the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boise, Idaho, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Army Salute, under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
