John Wayne Hetmer (Big John) was born September 18, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Joseph and Antonia Hetmer. He passed away on March 2, 2021 in Caldwell Idaho.
John was the oldest of five Hetmer Brothers (all pre-deceased) Raymond, Robert, Eugene and James. John leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years Angelina Hetmer, daughter Teresa Hetmer-Dillon, son Brian Hetmer, daughter Brenda Emerson, daughter Karen Moye; step-daughters, Carmen Whitmeyer, Sylvia Cowen and Pearl Hicks, as well as 17 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren.
John was raised in Nampa, Idaho. At an early age he joined the US Army. Upon John’s discharge in 1956, he accepted employment at Rohr Industries, an aerospace manufacturing company in Chula Vista, California. For 35 years, John worked and raised his family. Upon his retirement in 1981, John relocated back to his home state of Idaho and purchased his farm in Caldwell and a few income properties. John had a passion for law enforcement and became a volunteer for the Canyon County Sheriff’s Department. Throughout John’s life, he loved and remained committed to his country life style, his farming community, his friends and his family.
A viewing will be March 30, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel located at 504 S. Kimball Ave, Caldwell, Idaho 83605. Funeral Mass will be held on March 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1122 W. Linden St., Caldwell, Idaho 83605. Graveside service will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Nampa following the service.
