Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11th at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. John was born October 8, 1944 to Ernest L. and Isabel Crew at Caldwell, Idaho. He was raised and educated in Caldwell graduating from Caldwell High School in 1962. John enlisted into the US Air Force shortly after graduating and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home, he worked for his parents at their store Mountain View Grocery during the day and played guitar locally on the weekends. He loved playing music and some of his best days in his youth were playing with The Warlocks, Soul’s Kitchen, and various other groups of local talented musicians.
John married Betty Horton and they had two daughters, Dara and Trudi. They divorced and Betty moved with the girls to Texas.
In 1989, John met the love of his life, Tracee Madden Felt and together they raised her two young children, Alisha and Kye. Tracee passed away unexpectedly in 1996 and John continued to love and raise her children as his own.
John partnered in a masonry business with Cartee LaVoy for several years before opening his own business selling railroad ties. He also helped his mother Isabel at Duke’s Pawn whenever she needed him. John enjoyed the people that he met while he was working and made many longtime friends along the way. He dearly loved his family, playing guitar, visiting with friends, and his community of Caldwell. John lived every day of his life as fully as he could and he will always be remembered by his ability to love and forgive unconditionally.
John is survived by his sister, Janet (Darrell) Cornell of Nampa; his brother, Mike (Leslie) Crew of Bend, OR; his children, Dara Wydler and Trudi White, both of TX, Alisha (Brian) Hunt of Middleton, and Kye Felt of Caldwell; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his life love Tracee, his brother Danny, a grandson, and his parents.
