James Murray Torell

December 10, 1956 ~ December 29, 2020 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Tribute

James Murray Torell
James (Jim) Torell was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on December 10, 1956 to Paul and Mary
Torell and died of natural causes on December 28, 2020. He was 64 years old. He was a gentle
man with a vast knowledge of many subjects.

Jim moved with his parents to Twin Falls, ID in 1959 where his sister, Margaret, was born. The
family moved to Parma, ID in 1960 where he lived most of his life. He attended school at Parma
Elementary, Parma Middle School and graduated from Parma High School in 1975. From there,
he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from the University of Idaho and a Master’s of
Agronomy from the University of Wyoming. His knowledge of agronomy and his grasp of
science was exceptional.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and learned how to hunt and fish from his father at an early age.
The family traveled throughout the state of Idaho in quest of the biggest trout at the most
remote locations possible. His early years exploring the back country of Idaho grounded his
love of the outdoors and Jim was happiest when he was outdoors, especially with a fly rod in his
hand.
At the time of his death, Jim had just retired from a long career in agriculture and was
looking forward to many outdoor adventures. He loved sharing his passion of the outdoors
with friends and was always happy to lead groups in excursions to visit pictographs, go
snowshoeing or to take photographs of wildlife. Jim would often take a long break from his
fishing or hunting to curiously watch the flying habit of a butterfly or pattern of growth in a
plant.  Then he would enthusiastically describe his observation with family, friends and fellow
outdoor enthusiasts.

At the end of any day when Jim and his longtime, adopted brother, Essie
Fallahi, were coming back empty handed, he would say “Well, Essie, it was a great day to be
out; we did not catch any but watching the osprey catch the trout was a lot of fun”.

Jim is survived by his sister, Margaret Grate (Philip), his nephews Ryan and Kyle Grate, cousins
Robert (Linda) Torell, Dave Torell, Ron (Jackie) Torell, Tim (Sharon) Torell, Carol (Dave) Vallient
and his “adopted brother” and family, Esmaeil “Essie” Fallahi, (Bahar) and their children
Arzhang and Anahita Fallahi. He was proceeded in death by father Paul James Torell, mother
Mary A. Torell, grandparents, aunts, uncles and Cousin Allen Torell.

Due to COVID, no services will be held. Jim would implore all of us to wear masks and follow the
science as the world continues to deal with the pandemic.
