Tribute

On Sunday, August 15, 2021, Jacky Lamar Cooke, loving husband of 71 years, father of four children, 14 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, passed away at home at the age of 89, surrounded by his family.

Dad was born on June 28, 1932, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Robert and Mary Cooke of Castleford, Idaho.He attended all twelve grades in Castleford, graduating high school in 1950.

Dad met the love of his life, Peggy Puschel, in 1949.They were married on June 20, 1950.

Dad enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 25, 1951, in Twin Falls, Idaho.After 22 years, he retired and received his honorable discharge papers at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California, on July 1, 1973.

Dad rose to the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant, having received numerous meritorious service medals, including the Bronze Star.

Following his retirement, Dad joined the staff at the Bible Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Idaho.

In January of 1979, Dad accepted the call to pastor the Bible Baptist Church of Caldwell, Idaho, which was later renamed Centennial Baptist Church.

For 25 years, God used Dad to lead and to build a church where many were saved, baptized, and discipled.

In 2007, Dad felt the call to plant West Valley Baptist Church in Nampa, Idaho.

Although Dad retired from full-time ministry in 2011, he remained faithful to the work of God until his final days.

Dad was preceded in death by his father, Robert, his mother, Mary, his three brothers, Bob, Bill and Jimmy, his three sisters, Leona, Rosemary, and Beverly, and his great grand-daughter, Julianne Hetzer.

Dad is survived by Peggy, his wife of 71 years, his four children, Jon Cooke (Noy), Jennifer Johnson (Richard), Sylvia Urmin (Bill),and Robert Cooke (Kelly), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Judy Abbett (Pete).

Mom and the family wish to express their appreciation to the caring staff members of both Riverview Rehabilitation and Signature Hospice, as well as the loving care he received from the members of West Valley Baptist Church and his pastor, Jonathan Pyle.

Graveside service will be held immediately following the service at Canyon Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.
