Jack Clifford Younger, 74, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Jack was born a twin and grew up in Aurora, Colorado. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967. He was a Radio Operator 193, on the USS Zelima (AF-49). While serving our country, Jack earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.
Jack went to Boise State College, where he received his Associates of Science degree and bachelor's degree with a Major in Business Management and a Minor in Accounting.
He met his wife, Carolyn Mecham, in Mountain Home, Idaho. This year they would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They have two sons, Brian (Bobbie) and Randy; a grandson, Bryce Younger; a step-grandson, Keegan Schilling; and a step-granddaughter, Kayla Schilling.
Jack worked at the Model Market in Mountain Home, he also worked at the Merc in both Mountain Home and Hailey, Idaho. His family leased and operated Gus’s Gas and Grub Convenience Store in Caldwell, Idaho.
In 1991, he began a new career as a Commissary Officer overseeing four branches of the services: Wilder, Idaho (Air Force); Camp Casey (Army); Atsugi, Japan (Navy); and Misawa, Japan (All Four Branches).
In 2008, Jack and Carolyn returned to Idaho to begin their retirement. The years that followed were spent traveling, going on cruises, fishing and visiting family.
A viewing will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17th at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18th prior to funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Dakan Chapel. A luncheon will follow at CV Peckham Community Center adjacent to Dakan Chapel. Jack will be laid to rest at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
