Tribute

“Gunny” Gilbert Gonzalez Gonzalez died peacefully at home in Parma Idaho on March 12th, 2022, at the age of 70. Surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Gilbert was born in Greely, Colorado to Raul and Anna Gonzalez. While growing up he and his family migrated doing seasonal work. This meant moving from state to state and changing schools until finally settling down in Parma, Idaho. Gilbert’s highest level of education was 8th grade. He educated himself by reading and took some courses in his later years. When he was 20, he decided to enlist in the Marine Corp. The Corp stationed him in Okinawa Japan where he made several friends and had some tough, but great times. He served 4 years active duty and 17 years reserve at Gowen Field Boise, Idaho. Gilbert worked for the City of Parma for 14 years and then for Notus Parma Highway District for 25 years until his retirement in 2013.

During his active service in the Marine Corp, he met his beautiful wife to be Guadalupe Martinez. He fell in love with her and her two children Patricia and Jose whom he loved as his own. They married on July 30th, 1977. They added to the family with the birth of their daughter Kacy and 3 years later a son Orlando. This brought Joy and more happiness into Gilbert’s life. He enjoyed teaching his children how to shoot, fish, work on vehicles and he also enjoyed just going out on hikes, long drives, working on his yard or just sitting outside enjoying the sun. He instilled some of the Marine Corp disciplines into his children; room inspections, Respect your elders, Respect God, Country and Flag. These were just a few of many he instilled in them.

Gilbert was always friendly and kind to anyone he met. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Gilbert always had a big bright smile on his face, and he could talk to you for hours on end about anything and everything. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him.

He is preceded in death by his father Raul Gonzalez and brother Andre Gonzalez.

Gilbert is survived by his Wife of 45 years Guadalupe Gonzalez, Daughters Patricia (Patrick) McJunkin, Kacy Gonzalez, Sons Jose (Leslie) Cardona, Orlando (Michelle) Gonzalez; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. His Mother Anna Gonzalez, 3 Brothers Jr, Ray, Ruben and 3 sisters Janie Olivares, Diane (Beto) Rodriguez, Angie (Gil) Turjillo along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The memorial will take place at Roswell Baptist Church 28684 Hwy 18 Parma, Idaho 83660 on 3/26/22 at 10:30am.

“I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence I often speak your name. All I have is memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part. God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart.”    by: Leo Marks
