GERALD “JERRY” WAYNE THOMAS
September 02, 1938-September 26, 2021
Jerry Thomas passed away at the age of 83 in his home on September 26, 2021, covered in the last of the day’s sunlight shining through the window, in a room filled with his dearest loved ones.
Jerry was born the second child of Ralph and Evelyn Thomas in Fort Supply, Okla. He had four siblings- Pat, Rochelle, Kay, and Stan. The family moved to Idaho where Jerry attended Parma High School and met Naomi Cornwell, whom he would marry on June 30, 1957, in Roswell. In short order the couple were blessed with their three children.
Jerry spent his entire life working hard. He owned a service station in Notus for a few years in the early 60s, followed by a few years of driving bus and doing maintenance for Notus schools. He spent 12 years farming before he opened Jerry’s Repair Service in Notus in 1982, which he grew into a successful business still in operation today.
In 1992 Jerry’s beloved wife Naomi lost her battle with cancer and he remarried in July of 1993 to June Connelly. In 2004 Jerry began filling in as an itinerant preacher at Roswell Baptist Church, and was soon called to preach there full time, which he did for the rest of his life. In 2011 Jerry’s beloved wife June lost her battle with cancer.
Jerry was a pillar of every community he was a part of, always finding ways to serve. He was instrumental in the building of the Notus Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the Notus Community Center. He worked tirelessly to build up the community around him, tackling one project after another, the most recent being Launch Pad in Parma, about which he was especially passionate.
Jerry never knew a stranger and everyone he met experienced his humor, many opinions, and probably a good ribbing. His general cheerfulness, love of community, and insistence that things be done the right way genuinely made the world a better place. Thousands of lives have been touched by the hard-working hands of Jerry Thomas. His deep love and support of his family will send ripples for generations to come- none of us would be the same without him. He will be profoundly missed.
Jerry is survived by his siblings, his children Janie (David) Sugg, Michael (Charla) Thomas, and Paul (Malee) Thomas, and his stepchildren Tom (Vicky) Connelly and Dan Connelly. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death not only by his parents and beautiful wives, but by his sweet, beloved great-granddaughter Kairo, who left this earth a few short hours before him.
A service will be held for Jerry Saturday October 9th at 1030 am at the Laca Gym located on the Parma Middle School grounds, interment will follow at Roswell Cemetery. There will be a viewing October 8th from 5-7pm at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or plants, donations be sent in Jerry’s name to Launch Pad PO Box 55 Parma Id 83660 or to Gideons Int’l PO Box 1002 Caldwell, Id 83606.
