Tribute

Gary Johnson, 68 of Caldwell, passed away from natural causes on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

Gary was born on July 22, 1951 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was placed in a children’s home where he grew up. When he was older, Gary lived in several group homes. The last years of his life, Gary had the love and care of Bonnie and Steve Scherer for over 15 years before moving into the home of Annarose and George Hernandez in August of 2015. They cared for him until his passing.

Gary loved football season. The Boise State Broncos was his football team and he rarely missed a televised game. He would put his Bronco shirt on and root them on under his Bronco blanket. Gary loved his TV time – The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza were among his favorites, but they didn’t hold a candle to his favorite girl, Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune. He would always wave back to her at the end of the show when she waved goodbye. Gary also enjoyed fishing. Actually, he loved to fish but he didn’t like to bait the hook or reel it in-he just like to hold the pole and wait for the fish to bite. He had “his people” do the rest! Gary liked music and singing, especially Christmas songs. He could remember the words to most of the songs from the 70’s but he couldn’t always remember what he did the day before! Gary benefitted greatly from the different development centers that he was able to attend and loved being part of the Witco team.
