Elaine Ladd Ingram was born July 27, 1921 in Hot Springs, New Mexico and died July 29, 2019 at the age of 98 in Caldwell, ID. As the youngest of five children born to Leonard Leon and Louie Myrtle Ladd, her formative years were spent in Claunch, New Mexico where her parents had a farm. She attended school there until her senior year when she moved to Corona to live with her oldest sister and her husband to graduate from High School. After High School she attended the University of New Mexico and then transferred to Highland University in Las Vegas, NM.
She met her husband, Therman C. “Pat” Ingram, after he returned from the Army Air Corp in 1945 in Corona. They married in May of 1946 and earned their B.S. degrees from Western New Mexico University in Silver City in 1950. They accepted positions with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs as co-teachers at a Day School in Kerwo, AZ. This was the beginning of a 25 year journey with transfers to multiple places; Stewart, NV; Sells, AZ; Belcourt, ND; Anadarko, OK; Dulce, NM; Fullerton, CA; Anchorage, AK and Juneau, AK. Elaine taught elementary school in the various state school districts and when Pat retired in 1972 they moved to Socorro, NM where Elaine taught until her retirement in 1983.
Elaine was involved in Order of Eastern Star from her college years, and became more active after her move home to New Mexico. She held various offices and forged life-long bonds while she traveled with her O.E.S sisters throughout the State.
In 2001 Elaine moved closer to her children in Caldwell, ID. She enjoyed her new home and yard and kept active with family activities, which included traveling to see her relatives in various parts of the country as well as spending time at her Lake Tahoe cabin. Her quilts and embroidery work kept her active, but her piano was her touchstone. Her first piano was purchased in North Dakota and it moved with her. A fire occurred in their home in Socorro and she played multiple brands before buying a replacement. She would say “when the blues set in I sit down and played them away.”
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pat; parents, L.L. and Louie Ladd; her sisters, Dora Harding and Esther Rockwell, and brothers; Veltis and Roy Ladd.
Elaine is survived by her daughters: Laddene I. Korhonen (Allen) of Caldwell, ID; Lelaine I. Urban (Robert) of South Lake Tahoe, CA; and Leilani Ingram of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters: Krista A. Hopper (David) of North Bend, WA; Kara G. Korhonen of Boulder, CO; Danielle L. Urban of Las Vegas, NV; grandsons: Pierce I. Korhonen (Jeanelle) Highland Ranch, CO; and Travis L. Urban, Los Angeles, CA; six great-grandchildren; three nephews and five nieces.
When mom transitioned from her home to residential care she chose to move to Autumn Wind. She lived there for six years and during that time made friends of both residents and staff. The family would like to thank the staff for their consistent care and thoughtfulness. We would also like to thank Abode Hospice for their care and support of our family.
A funeral service will be held on August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, Highway 180 at Delk Drive, Silver City, NM 88061, with interment immediately following the service at the Masonic Cemetery, Cooper Street, S. Silver City, NM.
