Tribute

Earl Raymond Young, Jr., 75 of Caldwell, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Earl was born October 4, 1943 to Earl R. and Gretta Louise Young in Nampa, Idaho. He attended grade school in Parma, Idaho, later moving to Caldwell, Idaho, where he graduated from Caldwell High School in 1961.
In 1962, he married Janice Marie Bryant. She brought to the marriage a son, Leonard Ray. They together had three daughters and a son. They were later divorced.
On November 5, 1969, Earl married Gay D. Shaffer. They recently celebrated fifty years together. This union produced two daughters and a son.
Earl began working in the trucking industry in his twenties as a driver for McCluskey, and later went to Shoemaker Trucking as a safety man. He also went to work for Willis Shaw driving tandem with his wife. In his career, he drove freight for several companies, until an accident caused him to lose an eye. He finished his trucking career upon his death at SPI International. He always conducted his business dealings with respect and dignity, a trait he instilled on his children.
Earl loved music and cars. He briefly played the drums with Paul Revere and The Raiders. He spent hours with his sons and brother Ron building cars and trucks. But he was especially fond of Corvettes and Mopars. He was a proud member of The Valley Corvette Club.
He was a family man. He enjoyed family camping trips to Lost Lake, where so many memories were created. To Earl, the word family encompassed so many people. Once you were family, you were always family. His kind heart and wonderful sense of humor was loved by all who knew him.
Earl is survived by his wife, Gay of Caldwell; brother, Ronald and sister-in-law, Debbie; sister-in-law, Marie; daughter, Barbara Young Nielsen and son-in-law, Len of Boise; daughter, Kelli and son-in-law, Bart Mooney of Pocatello; son, Dennis and daughter-in-law, Lei Lani of Mountain Home; son, Patrick and daughter-in-law, Jena Young of Kuna; daughter, Angelina and son-in-law, Aaron Sasser of Boise; and daughter Emily and son-in-law, John Goodenough of Kuna.
