Doris M McLaughlin

July 19, 1932 ~ March 10, 2018 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

We have a million memories to treasure of our godly Mom, our children's Granny. She left a legacy of faith and unconditional love. She always put other's needs before her own. Even after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer eleven months ago, she would still ask if she could get you anything when visiting her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, always looking on the bright side, even in death. It was a sunny, spring day that she went to be with her Savior.

Doris was born in LaVeta, Colorado to Linford and Mildred Downs. Her family moved to Caldwell in 1940. She attended Van Buren, Jefferson Jr. High, and Caldwell High schools, graduating in 1950.
She met and married the love of her life, Jim McLaughlin. They had three children, Ray, Rhonda, and Diana.

Mom worked in retail most of her life, retiring from King's Dept. Store in Caldwell. One of her favorite jobs was when she worked at Hoffman's Greenhouse. It was always an adventure when we got to go to work with her at the greenhouse.

Her favorite past-time was working in her wonderful back yard. She created a place of beauty that her children, grandchildren, and friends will always remember. She enjoyed the antics of the squirrels which were always looking to clean out the bird feeders. Granny's house was always a special place where memories were made to be treasured. She loved to travel and to go on excursions in the Owyhee Mountains. She also enjoyed her seven years as a volunteer at Four Rivers Hospice.

The plaque in her front room said, "Faith Family Friends" - those three things were always what were most important to her. She lived out her faith, her family was everything to her, and her friends were many. From the Golden Girls to her Thursday card playing friends - Flo, Betty, & Judy, to young and old, Doris was loved.

She was a member at Centennial Baptist in Caldwell and had been faithfully attending church at West Valley Baptist in Nampa for the past year.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; her parents; and her two brothers, Frank and Jack Downs.

She is survived by her son Ray (Cindy) McLaughlin, and daughters, Rhonda (Rob) Wickland, and Diana Seevers, all of Caldwell; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and another great grandchild expected in August. Also by her sister Vicki (Bob) Allen of Boise, and other in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

Every beautiful flower, every lovely sunset, every stately American flag we see, we will be reminded of you Mom. You truly were a Proverbs 31 woman.

We would like to thank all those who sent her a card, visited, called, or made a special gift for her. She felt so blessed. Thank you Ermelinda Garcia and Renee Charron of St. Luke's Hospice for your love and care for our Mom, you became very special to her and to us.

Services will be held Friday, March 16th, 2:00 p.m. at West Valley Baptist Church in Nampa. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
