After his army service, he met and married his darling Clara and moved to McCall, ID, one winter, where he ran a ski lift. In 1950, Delmer and Clara lived in Boise, ID shortly before moving to Martinez, CA.
He was hired as a patrolman for the City of Martinez on October 1, 1953. Delmer was promoted to Sergeant on April 1, 1957. He served in the K-9 unit with his beloved German shepherd, Konig ‘Arno’ van Metzner. ‘Arno’ become Clara’s watch dog after his retirement from service. Delmer and Clara were faithful Christians and active members of the Church of Christ in Meridian, ID. He and his wife established a Bible Outreach program several years ago, filming sermons at various churches of Christ across the country. Their videos provided sermons for small congregations that lacked a preacher.
Besides their church activities, family was very important to them. They enjoyed traveling throughout North America visiting family and friends along the way. Delmer & Clara were avid campers, often taking the roads less traveled through the back country. They always found the best fishing spots. The goose and the gander are together again and bonded forever.
