Carol J. Oswald passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2023. Carol was born in Nyssa, Oregon in 1934. Shortly after, her family moved to Middleton where she resided for the majority of her life. Upon graduation from Middleton High School she worked at the Bank of Idaho in Caldwell prior to moving to Costa Mesa, California for a short time. While living in California, she met Clyde W. Oswald and they were married in 1958. They welcomed their son Jeffrey while stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Mojave, CA. After Clyde’s discharge, they lived for a short period of time in Minnesota and then permanently relocated to Carol’s hometown of Middleton, ID where daughters Pamela and Susan were born.
She was a busy stay at home mom until Susan entered 1st grade. She then attended Kaley Medical School earning her certification in medical transcription. While doing a rotation at the Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic in Caldwell she was offered a job and continued to work there for the next 27 years. She enjoyed the many friendships she developed with her co-workers, patients and the doctors she worked for. Upon her retirement she renewed her sewing hobby with a vengeance. Quilting became an obsession, and one she shared freely with all of us. Her beautiful quilts adorn many family beds in our homes and our Lowman and Donnelly cabins.
During this time Carol and Clyde’s family continued to grow, welcoming daughter and son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their greatest joy was participating in whatever their kids and grandkids were doing. Carol’s home and table was where the entire family was always welcomed and gathered for countless holidays, birthdays and any other reason she could think of to bring us all together. Carol continued to be faithful to the Lord throughout her entire life and it was this wisdom that was doled out with great love and affection over many a cup of coffee, a warm meal, a sink full of soapy water and her sewing machine. Carol and Clyde celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary shortly before he passed in 2017.
Carol’s home continued to be the family’s gathering place right up to the last evening of her life. She was greatly loved and adored by all of us and we will miss her deeply.
Carol is survived by her children Jeffrey (Sherry) Oswald of Middleton, Pamela (COL. (retired) Dr. Michael J.) Hoilien of Caldwell, Susan (Doug) Wikfors of Star, a brother LaVon residing in Washington, a sister Mary in Minnesota, grandchildren Seth Oswald, Jennifer Hall, Kimberly Silveria and their families, extended grandchildren Holly Arnold, Bryce Wikfors and their families. She was preceded in death by Clyde, her grandson, Zeb Oswald, her parents and two brothers.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the care and support that Heart ‘n Home Hospice and Palliative Care provided for our mom.
