Bonnie J. Walker was born in Boise Idaho on July 27, 1946, to Elmer Call and Ferris Gee Barlow. She grew up on a farm on Jump Creek Road between Marsing and Homedale. She learned hard work early on the farm and enjoyed her school years in the Marsing School District. After high school she attended Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho; after her schooling she remained in Rexburg working. There she met her husband, Calvin Walker, who was raised in Lewisville Idaho; they married November 27, 1970 at Homedale.
After marriage they relocated to Jump Creek Road and worked on the Barlow family farm. Their first daughter, Brenda, was born in 1971, but passed away in 1975 in an accident. Melanie, Vance B, Alison and Sarah followed.
Bonnie and Calvin bought their own property next to the family farm and built their house in the 1980s. She loved her home which she decorated for every holiday and her yard which she kept filled with flowers. But mostly she loved her family and tried to raise them well. She worked as office manager for Scott Refrigeration for several years.
After retirement, she started substitute teaching for the Homedale School District and was very good at it. She loved working with the kids and became “Grandma” to many of her grandkids’ friends at school. She went to graduation every year to watch the kids move on in life and to spray them with silly string. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings with the women, children and youth. She taught early morning seminary for several years.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Calvin Walker, of Homedale. Also surviving are her children, Melanie Walker of Wilder, Idaho; Vance B Walker of Marsing, Idaho; Alison (Tom) Bicandi of Middleton, Idaho; and Sarah (Tom) Nothnagel of Brigham City, Utah. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brodee Walker, Blake Walker, Brock Walker, Bradley Walker, Lucas Bicandi, Colton Bicandi, and Grace Bicandi, and great grandson, Braxton Walker. Also surviving are sister, Charlene Barlow, and brother, Kevin (Karen) Barlow. She is survived and loved by cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Brenda and grandson Mason Price.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Homedale with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Home in Caldwell.
