Tribute

Andy Jackson Peace Jr. was born March 28, 1931 in Carter Nine, Oklahoma to Mabel Hansing and Andy Jackson Peace Sr. Carter Nine was an oil boomtown that no longer exists. Andy grew up in Vinita, Oklahoma then moved to Wyoming, attending High School in Casper and working on a Ranch near Medicine Bow. While there Andy learned to tool leather and took up rodeo, riding saddle bronc’s and bulls.
Andy joined the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Strategic Air Command, serving in the Air Police Division. While there he met and fell in love with Loris Lofquist. They married May 10, 1952.
After leaving the Air Force he and Loris moved to San Luis Obispo, California where Andy attended Cal-Poly attaining his certificate in Animal Husbandry. They lived in Delaware, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma, finally settling down in Idaho. Andy loved the mountains of Idaho and centered his life around raising his 5 children and teaching them the love of the outdoors while canoeing, hunting, fishing, backpacking on foot and with horses.
Andy learned to sail while temporarily living in Mukilteo, Washington. He spent a lot of time sailing Puget Sound and the Canadian coastline. In 1996, Andy and Loris attained their dream vacation when they spent a summer on their 25 ft. cabin cruiser traveling up the inside passage to Alaska. Andy lost Loris in 2000 after 48 years of marriage when she died of diabetic complications.
Andy learned to snow ski at the age of 69 and skied every winter up to 7 weeks before his death at age 87.
Esther Stoddard came into Andy’s life and they shared some fantastic skiing and sailing adventures. Esther introduced him to rocks. They were always in the back country looking for rocks they could cut and polish. Once again Andy lost his friend and companion when Esther passed.
Andy married Sharon Sessions Gill. They were always having fun doing something. They regularly went on movie and dinner ‘dates’, spent time in Long Valley, traveled to various Idaho hot springs and enjoyed many hours together in their rock shop making beautiful jewelry and belt buckles. The last few years of his life were enriched by her family adding another dimension to Andy’s already large existing family.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loris Peace, Esther Stoddard, and grandson J. Zeb Oswald.
Andy is survived by Deborah (Brad) Miller of Kuna, Sherry (Jeff) Oswald of Middleton, Billy (Shauna) Peace of Kuna, Trudi (Steve) Potts of Caldwell, Michelle (Todd) Davis of Caldwell, 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
