Alma Collins, 91 of Caldwell, formerly of Wilder, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017. Alma was born in a log cabin near Willow Springs, Missouri on March 8, 1926. She was the 3rd of 8 children born to John and Clearcy Johnson. As Alma came into this world, she was accompanied by her identical twin sister, Thelma.
Alma and her brothers and sisters spent their childhood growing up in the mountains of Missouri. Life was not always easy during the Depression years, but Alma grew up with a sense of love for family.
Alma met her husband-to-be, Fent Collins, in 1937. She was 11 and he was 17. Six years later in 1943, they got married. They soon moved to California where they worked in the vineyards. Not liking California, they returned to Missouri where their first child, Betty was born in October of 1945. In 1947, Fent and Alma moved to Idaho, settling in Wilder. Their son, Van Ross, was born in February of 1950. Alma was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed caring for her home and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Fent Collins; her parents; 3 brothers and 3 half-sisters.
Alma is survived by her daughter, Betty Collins of Caldwell; her son, Van Ross (Kathy) Collins of Nampa; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Perales of Caldwell, Patrick Perales of West Linn, OR, Andrew Collins and Laura Collins both of Nampa; 3 great-grandchildren, Chyna Perales and Payton Perales, both of Bryan, TX and Wyatt Perales of West Linn, OR; her twin sister, Thelma Thompson of Caldwell; her sister, Jewell Ledbetter of Boise; and numerous nieces and nephews in Idaho, Missouri and Oregon.
Alma’s family wishes to thank the wonderful people of Horizon Hospice for the loving care she received from them. They became part of her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 8th at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell with viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Burial will be at Wilder Cemetery, Wilder. A reception celebrating Alma’s life will follow at Hazel Park Apartments, 211 E Hazel St, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
