Welcome to the memorial page for

Gene Cobiskey

January 10, 1927 ~ January 24, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Sigel Eugene “Gene” Cobiskey

Our dad was born January 10, 1927 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and passed away in his home at Notus, Idaho on January 24, 2018. He was born to Charles F. and Demis M. (Casper) Cobiskey. To this union were born 2 boys and 4 girls-all deceased.

The family made their way to Jordan Valley and ranched in the Cow Creek-Sucker Creek area. Gene attended school there until 3rd grade then the family moved to Pleasant Ridge area where Gene went to Notus schools and worked on the family farm. Gene graduated from Caldwell High School
Class of 44'.

Gene joined the army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946 getting to go to Panama. He attended College of Idaho taking courses in business after the army. Gene married Shirley D. Hughes April 30, 1950 in Parma, Idaho. To this union of 44 years were born Douglas (Carol Cobiskey) of Marsing; Laraina (Greg) Oyama of Meridian; Lynna Dibben of Notus; and Lane (Bobbi) Cobiskey of Canada. This was Gene's greatest source of joy. He worked at Grace Lutheran Church cleaning so his children could go to school there.

While first married Gene and Shirley lived with his parents and farmed. He held several different jobs over the years and made many friends. Gene worked at JR Simplots, running Stinker Stations, running the Chalet Amusement Park, construction and driving truck. He was never afraid of hard work.

His family moved to the Franklin Community in 1963 and he raised his children there in a big old farm house. With all kids gone, mom got her dream house back in Dixie Community in 1979. Mom passed away on November 6, 1994. Gene met Shirley A. Pugh in 1997 and together they traveled some and had many great times. Shirley gave dad a 70th birthday at the Pleasant Ridge Grange and so many of his friends came. Shirley passed away in 2003.

In 2007, Gene moved in with his youngest daughter and enjoyed his 10 1/2 years living there even after she took his driver's license 6 years ago. Gene remained healthy and up beat until a year ago when his health got bad. He was a very brave man through his decline.

The family would especially like to thank all the people at Heart and Home, Dakan, Pastor Cleve and all our friends and family who have done so much for us at this place in our lives.

Gene is survived by Douglas and Carol Cobiskey, Greg and Laraina Oyama, Lynna Dibben, Lane and Bobbie Cobiskey, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
