Rachel Cecelia Sauvageau

Rachel Sauvageau, 92, of Meridian, ID, passed away on March 29, 2024. She was born on March 5, 1932, in Fargo, ND. Rachel was married to Lawrence Sauvageau on September 13, 1950. They resided in Morehead, MN, where they raised their 5 children, Sharon, Rick, Ken, Bruce, and Larry. In 1957, they moved to Long Beach, CA, where they expanded their family with the addition of Laurie, Kevin, and Terri. In 1973, Rachel and Lawrence, along with 4 of their youngest children, relocated to Caldwell, ID.

Rachel was a devoted mother and homemaker. In Long Beach, she cared for eight children while also tending to her garden. In Caldwell, she worked in the agricultural industry, sorting onions and apples before embarking on a 17-year career at Simplot Food Division as a line inspector, where she eventually retired.

An accomplished seamstress, Rachel enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren, including a few wedding dresses. Her true passion, however, was gardening. She found joy in cultivating both vegetables and flowers and generously shared her harvest with loved ones.

Rachel was well-known for hosting backyard picnics and Easter brunches, creating cherished memories for her family and friends. She also loved camping and fishing, embracing the outdoors with enthusiasm.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Sauvageau, her daughter Sharon, her parents Wilfred and Lillian Rheault, and her brothers Raymond, Maurice, Clarence, and Gerald. She is survived by two sisters Marie and Joanne; her children Rick (Jeanette), Ken (Jennifer), Bruce (Cheryl), Larry, Laurie (Bob), Kevin (Janet), and Terri; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Rachel requested that donations be made to a favorite charity in her memory. The Sauvageau family expresses their gratitude to everyone at Grace Assisted Living/Meridian and All Care Hospice for their dedicated care of Rachel.

Rachel Sauvageau will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, generosity, commitment to her faith in God and her joy in life will forever be cherished by her family and friends. May she rest in peace. 


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Dakan Funeral Chapel. Viewing April 10, 2024 between 5 and 7 p.m. at Dakan Chapel.
