Marvis Elaine Arlene Bonham was the third daughter to Floyd and Martha Bonham born December 23, 1925 in Dunlap, Oklahoma. She started school in a one room school house 1-3rd grade; the rest of her schooling was in Laverne, Oklahoma.

Mom worked many jobs and at 10 years old worked washing milk bottles, morning and night, for 1 cent a day and 25 cents a week, which she saved in a Prince Albert can. In high school she was a checker in a grocery store. That is where Marvis met the love of her life, Herman Robert Nielsen and they were married August 28, 1941. Dad went into the service in December 1941 and spent time overseas in North Africa and Italy.

A daughter Elaine was born in 1942 while Dad was in Syria. Mom helped her mother and stepfather on a farm in Douglas, Kansas. She later worked for Sonner Burner in Winfield, Kansas. Dad returned home in June 1945. Mom then became a stay-at-home mom and two more daughters were born, Linda in 1946 and Ramona in 1947.

The family moved to Nampa on December, 7 1948. In 1949 a son, Merle, was born. Herman attended Oregon Tech for 2 years for body and fender school. We returned to Nampa and Dad worked for Honstead Motors. Another daughter, Patricia, joined the family in 1952.

In 1957, Mom started working at the Birdseye plant in Nampa and worked there for 20 years until the plant closed in the 20th year. She held the positions as Floor Lady, Sanitation Leader, Production Leader and Warehouse Leader. After the plant closed, Mom went to work for the State of Idaho Department of Transportation District 3 as Building and Grounds Maintenance.

Mom retired in 1988 and spent time with family and friends. She took trips to the East Coast, Northern Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Later in years she loved spending time with her entire family and great great-grandchildren.

Marvis is survived by her children, Elaine (Bob) Poplasky of CN, Linda (Bob) Haerling of OR, Remona (Robert) Morford of Nampa, Merle (Joann) Nielsen of Caldwell, and Patricia (Gene) Lewis of Fernwood, ID; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren & great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, two sisters, a brother, stepfather, two stepmothers, two grandsons, several nieces and nephews, grandparents, and all of the in-laws on her husband’s side of the family.
