Leondis LaVerne Ackerman

Leondis “Lonnie” LaVerne Ackerman, 88 of Nampa, Idaho went to be with the love of his life November 9th, 2017. He passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in which he called home for years. Lonnie was born June 19th, 1929 to Clarence and Pearl Mae Ackerman in Mountain Grove, Missouri where he grew up and was educated. His family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1947 and he helped build the family’s home. He went to work for Hugh Hoskins Orchards, farmed for a family at Dry Lake and then PFE shop for nearly 10 years. Lonnie met his best friend and woman of his dreams, Alice Marie Howell and they married April 28, 1949 in Winnemucca, Nevada. Just following their marriage he built his bride a home digging the basement by pitch fork, shovel and wheel barrow. The home was a smaller replica of Alice’s parent’s farm home in Wilder. In 1967, side by side Lonnie and Alice purchased and drove their own trucks and trailers; Ackerman Trucking became their lifelong adventure. Years of hauling hay providing for many farms, ranches and dairies. As the business grew he contracted hauling corn for local seed companies and later bridges for state projects. Lonnie drove truck well into his 70’s and L.L. Ackerman Trucking is proudly still operated by grandson, Lonnie Dice from the home his grandfather built.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Terry Dice; one brother Duane (Shirley) Ackerman; 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ackerman; his son James Ackerman; his mother and father; and two brothers.
Services to celebrate the life of Lonnie Ackerman will be held Monday, November 20th at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Viewing will be held at 12:00 p.m. with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.
