Jean C Putnam

March 22, 1934 ~ January 2, 2018 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Jean Candland Putnam, 83, of Caldwell, Idaho passed gently in her sleep Tuesday morning, January 2, 2017 with her sweetheart of 67 years by her side.

Jean was the first child of Rhoda Alice Winmill and Ervin L. Candland born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on March 22, 1934. Jean enjoyed being the oldest child in her family and one of the oldest cousins because she loved watching her little sister, brothers, and cousins. Jean was baking bread at eight years old and organizing and caring for others at a very early age. This gift of hosting with love stayed with her always.

Jean found the love of her life, Clay Putnam, and they married on December 30th, 1950. Theirs was “the great American love story.” They laughed and cried together, facing both challenges and joys with grace and courage. Jean and Clay’s family was complete with the birth of Cindy and Rhonda, their “girls”. Many wonderful family memories have been tucked away in the hearts and minds of Jean’s immediate and extended progeny. Some of the best family events occurred around trips to Disneyland and Disney World.

Jean served happily and faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jean enthusiastically served in both stake and ward Young Women leadership, teaching and leading by both example and word. These years provided Jean with satisfying memories. Many of the teenagers whose lives she touched remember their time with her fondly. Jean also served in many capacities in the women’s and children’s organizations of the church. Jean shared her enthusiasm with all the wonderful children, youth, and adults she worked with. Jean treasured her 17 years of service in the Boise LDS Temple. Forever friendships were established wherever she served.

Jean had fun working as the Jefferson Junior High School secretary. Again she fulfilled that responsibility with efficiency, grace, and professionalism. She cherished the friends she made while working there over the years. We have often met former JJHS students who have shared stories of Jean assisting them with kindness and calm as well as her hallmark competency.

With gratitude, Jean prided herself in being a breast cancer survivor, a fierce fighter of fibromyalgia, and a brave soldier in her 8 year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Jean is survived by her husband, 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8th at the Caldwell East LDS Stake Center on Linden at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
