Jay Franklin Olsen of rural Wilder passed away on October 3, 2017.
A retired Civil Engineer, Jay was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, especially for family and friends. His other hobbies included watching movies and sports (particularly baseball), road trips in his convertible Mustang, model railroading, and genealogy.
Jay was born April 26, 1945 to Cloyd H. and Helen M. Olsen in Nampa, Idaho. He was raised along with his sister, Evelyn, in Central Cove. He graduated from Homedale High School in 1963. He went on to earn bachelors’ degrees in architecture and civil engineering from the University of Idaho at Moscow, where he met his wife, Janet Fay Eldridge of Kendrick, whom he married in 1969. They moved to San Diego in 1973, where they raised their three children. Jay continued to reside in San Diego after Janet’s death in 1995, and returned to Central Cove, post-retirement, in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, and his parents, Cloyd and Helen. He is survived by his three children, their spouses, and four granchildren: Sven Olsen and his wife Angela (Lantana, Texas); Janelle, her husband Dean Devera, and their son and daughter, Dex and Violet (San Diego, California), and Galen Olsen, his wife Rachele, and their two daughters, Gabriela and Coraline (Cary, North Carolina). He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Olsen, his aunts Faye Mayne and Freda Lineberger, and numerous cousins.
Family and friends are asked to gather for a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel, 504 South Kimball Avenue , Caldwell, ID on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
