Delmer Masters

March 23, 1927 ~ December 9, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Delmer Masters, 90 of Caldwell, Idaho, died peacefully at 11:52 p.m. December 9, 2017, at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Nampa, Idaho.

He was born on March 23, 1927, in Mabank, Texas, to Delmer Exel Masters and Sybil Connie (Baker) Fannin. Delmer married Clara Metcalf in Winnemucca, Nevada on November 22, 1947 and she survives.

Also surviving are his sister, Sara Catherine Caraway of Napa, CA; brother, James Paul Fannin of Fair Oaks, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family members.

His parents, his brother, Charles Thomas Masters, and niece, Laura Diane Broadbent, preceded him in death.

When Delmer was 18 years old, he enlisted in the US Army on July 25, 1945. He served a tour in Germany from 1946 until his discharge in 1947. After his army service, he married his darling Clara and moved to McCall, Idaho, where he ran a sky lift. In 1950, he and his wife lived shortly in Boise, Idaho before moving to Martinez, California.

Delmer was hired as a patrolman for the City of Martinez on October 1, 1953. He served in the K-9 unit with his beloved German shepherd, Arno. He was promoted to Sergeant on April 1, 1957. He was then hired by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department on March 23, 1961. He was put in charge of the Marsh Creek Detention Facility in Clayton, California. Delmer made significant improvements to the facility before he retired, as a Lieutenant, from the Sheriff’s Department on March 31, 1976.

After retiring, Delmer and Clara moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where they lived for 20 years. From there, they settled in Caldwell, Idaho. Delmer was a faithful Christian and an active member of The Church of Christ in Meridian, Idaho. He and his wife established a Bible Outreach program, several years ago filming sermons at various Churches of Christ across the country. Their videos provided sermons for small congregations that lacked a preacher.

Besides his church activities, family was very important to him. He also loved to travel, camp and was an avid fisherman, often catching his limit.

Memorial Services will be held next spring on April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Meridian Church of Christ, 1555 N Linder Rd, Meridian, ID 83642. Lunch will be provided by the church after the services. Delmer's ashes will be interred at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
