Clyde W. Oswald

Clyde W. Oswald passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2017. Clyde, and his twin brother Clayton, were born in Rochester, Minnesota in 1938 and grew up in a farming community just outside Pine Island, Minnesota. Clyde joined the United States Marine Corps in 1956 serving non-combat duty in Jacksonville, FL, Memphis, TN and El Toro, CA. Sergeant Oswald was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal in 1959 and was honorably discharged from his reserve obligation in 1962.
While serving in California, he met Carol J. Kindall and they were married in 1958. They welcomed their son Jeffrey while stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Mojave, CA. After his discharge, they lived for a short period of time in Minnesota and then permanently relocated to Carol’s hometown of Middleton, ID where daughters Pamela and Susan were born. Shortly after, while working at Statewide Hardware, Clyde noticed a Minnesota plate on a vehicle in the parking lot. He approached the owner of the car, John Derringer, to chat about what he was doing in Idaho. That conversation led to Clyde becoming the 1st employee of D&B Supply Company. Clyde worked at D&B for 52 years retiring in 2011.
Clyde’s family continued to grow welcoming daughter and son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was participating in whatever his kids and grandkids were doing. He was the steady hand and heart in all of their lives. His gift was knowing what each of them needed at any given time. Clyde and Carol celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past February.
Clyde was a member of the Elks Club 1965 - 2017, the Canyon County Mounted Sherriff’s Posse 1968-1973, and was a member of the Middleton School Board 1975 – 1981, serving as Chairman of the Board for several of those years.
He is survived by his wife Carol, children Jeffrey (Sherry) Oswald of Middleton, Pamela (COL. (retired) Dr. Michael J.) Hoilien of Caldwell, Susan (Doug) Wikfors of Eagle, two sisters Lorraine Bakken and Wava Zietlow residing in Minnesota, his twin brother Clayton Oswald in Florida, grandchildren Seth Oswald, Jennifer Hall, Kimberly Silveria and their families. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Zeb Oswald, his parents and four siblings.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15th at 2:00pm at Valley Church 2900 Life Way, Caldwell, ID 83605. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
