Bette Collins

Bette Collins passed away January 30, 2018 at the age of 93 of natural causes due to a brief illness. She was born November 7, 1924 in Meridian, Idaho the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Sevy. She graduated from Homedale High School in 1940. She married Wendell Collins in Bremerton, WA Nov. 21, 1942. Wendell was in the Navy at that time. They traveled extensively and established life-long friendships.
After Wendell’s discharge they had a cattle ranch in New Meadows, Idaho from 1947 until 1961. After operating a Purina Feed Store in Council, Idaho for a few years, they returned to ranching in Jordan Valley, Oregon in 1964.
Bette was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin, her son-in-law, Ron Burch and her parents. After Wendell died in 1993, she moved to Nevada to live with her daughter René and family. She spent summers in Jordan Valley, which she always considered home. Bette returned to Idaho in 2004 where she lived near her daughter, Dion Burch in Caldwell.
Bette was a consummate homemaker, dedicated mother, and devoted to her grandchildren. She was an adventurous and an excellent cook. She enjoyed quilt-making, stained glass art, gardening and reading. She was meticulous in all her undertakings. She also enjoyed widespread travel throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Wendy Downs, Nampa, ID, Rand Collins (Jayne), Jordan Valley, OR, René Maestréjuan (Rick), Jordan Valley, Dion Burch (Ron), Caldwell, ID; grandchildren, Chris Collins (Jamie), Jordan Valley, Amy Wittmuss (Kevin), Meridian, Teo Maestréjuan (Sarah), Jordan Valley, Martin Maestréjuan of Wilder, ID, Joe Burch, Bridgeport, CA, Sean (Andrea) Burch, Jordan Valley, Jay (Angie) Burch, Parma; great-grandchildren, Quinton and Claire Collins, Connor and Coby Wittmuss, Jaylee and Deni Maestréjuan, Rosalie and Augustus Burch, Emilee, Halle and Whitlee Burch, Jayde and Caden Burch, Kaily and Lyndy Birch; great-great grandchild, Uriah Burch; nephew, Jody Sevy (Kathy), Towson, Maryland; niece, Sally Marchelonis, Tucson, AZ and their children; also numerous members of the Collins family and Sevy family.
A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1122 W. Linden St., Caldwell, ID.
